  1. I had a house built in the 50's that had hardwood floors that squeaked.  I fixed the annoying problem by buying floor jacks at Lowes to apply upward pressure on the bottom of the floors in the basement.  The jacks are about 8' tall (or so) and they adjust to your exact height.  Then all you do is turn the jack until it tightens and voilla, no more squeaks.  You can also pound nails into the subfloor underneath in the basment.  Hope this helps.

  2.   Get some baby powder and sprinkle it in the spaces between the flooring ,,,, this usely works

  3. They squeak because the nails have become loose, and the boards flex when you walk on them. The squeaking is the sound of the boards rubbing along the nails.

To fix this, you need to nail the boards down to the floor joists so they don't flex anymore. Use small, hardened nails colored to match your floorboards, and drive them in at a slight angle, in between the boards. Use a nailset to drive the nails into the boards so the heads don't stick up. Alternate the angle of the nails so the boards tend to tighten against the nails.

Get down on the floor and have a helper step on the boards while you watch them. Identify where the boards are flexing, and nail them down at those points.

If you have access to the underside of the floor, such as from the basement, you can s***w up into the floorboards to pull them down. You can nail a small block to the joist, against the floorboards, and s***w through the block into the floorboards. You can also buy special brackets to attach to the joists that you drive a s***w through to pull down the floorboards.

  4. best option is to sand them down abit so they dont hit each other and creak. a short term fix but NOT a good idea is to put oil ( or equivilent) to stop the boards grinding together
