  1. i almost went there for my honeymoon this year and i read in february that it is comparable to new york city. just google cost of living in different areas and also google real estate in iceland. that should get the info you need.

  2. pretty expensive, and real estate is ridiculous, but once you have a job there it is so much better ebcause the jobs have very high wages which compensate for the high price of everything, (it is really backwards because people only work for what they feel is alot or because tehy think they are better than someone who does the dishes at a restaurant, they have to pay alot more for labor so because companies lose so much money in paying for labor prices get jacked up, another thing is it isnt like america where everything is made in china and honduras, so they dont have cheap labor) good luck!

    visiticeland.com

  3. you can go here and have a look, but the site's in icelandic: http://www.leigulistinn.is/.

there are about 80 icelandic kronur to 1 US dollar.

rentals are much less expensive in reykjavík than what i'm used to in NYC, but probably a little more expensive than the rest of the US.

what is expensive are things like books and going out to eat. expect to pay twice as much for a book, and even more for a restaurant meal. for example, if i can get a burger for $8 in NYC, i'd expect to pay about $20 in reykjavík, and my portions would also be just a bit smaller. i did have some fabulous meals there (i'm back from a recent vacation), but i knew beforehand how much i would be paying...

EDIT: having said all that, everything is relative, and when i asked someone there about moving and living there, she said i should be able to get by just fine with 100.000 kronur a month plus my rent...

  4. Actually that may not be so true, because they pay very little or nothing for house heating and water supply. Would you reall want to live there though? They have one tiny problem with their economy because they don't have industrial jobs, and they just put in 2 factories that nonbody agrees with it was in national geographic. Iceland is a beautiful place, one of the cleanest in the world, which is why nobody wanted those 2 factories!  they also depend heavily on fishing! But if its for vation then i guess it would be a un experience!
