In other words, if you're union, are you ever screwed? Is it ever a bad thing to be union?

  1. None that I can see.

The major advantage of union membership is PROTECTION from management abuse, protection from being fired or laid-off at managerment's whim, and a better bargaining position for salary and raises.

The major disadvantage is LEVEL SALARY;  you are not rewarded for extra effort or labor and slackers will receive the same pay as you.

Your union should not "s***w" you, but sometimes, after contract negotiations, low seniority employees get laid-off to save management some of the added expense due to salary increases (at least, management will threaten to do that).

  2. First off, if a company really IS worth workiing for, then a union is basically useless. You pay dues with little need for their support.

Second, even though benefit packages with unions usually SOUND fantastic, they will still try to tell you which doctors you're allowed to see. Thus saving them money, while the you receive may not be the best.

    I bope this helps..

  3. my personal take is there was a time and place for them but no longer. all are based on senority not on performance which demotivates people.
