  1. I guess it's a country thing, but I can tell that a rain/storm is coming by the change in the air pressure.  When rain is w/in a few miles, you can indeed smell it.  It's hard to explain...  I can feel when tornadoes are in the region, as well.  It's the air pressure thing again; it's like it tells your body that severe weather is nearby and to protect yourself.

  2. 1)  Atmosheric pressure changes affect our bodies and for

the most part, we are unaware of it (especially the young.)

If the pressure changes enough, we do notice it:  Have you

ever dived to the bottom of a 12' deep pool?  Thats deep

enough for most people to feel the pressure.  We're used to

having a certain amount of pressure on our bodies (15psi,

give or take a small percentage) People with old or weak

joints are the first to be able to feel the change.  When its

going to rain the pressure decreases causing a discomfort

    in joints.

    2) Most of us can "smell" rainy weather approaching.  When

lightning strikes, oxygen is converted to ozone.  When

enough of it is concentrated in one area (as in a few miles

from a storm) we can smell it.  To me it smells watery.

  3. alot of people with arthritis can tell because the low pressure makes their joints achy.

  4. I live in the south and there's a lot of old wives tells about how you can tell it's going to rain. Some people say they can smell it. I've also heard that leaves turn over on the trees when it's going to rain. I usually think it's going to rain when the sky gets dark and cloudy and the wind kicks up. I haven't been wrong once.
