i have hi8 tapes but i have lost my camcorder but i want to transfer it to my pc without using camcorder . can i do it with capture card without purhasing camcorder . i mean is capture card alone sufficient to serve the purpose or camcorder is mandatory . if yes let me know the complete procedure

let me get this straight you don't have the camcorder with you but you have a capture card.

the thing is that the capture card only adds inputs to the computer. this is not a computer powered hi8 vcr just a place where you could connect a camcorder. you do need the camcorder to play the tapes. Do you see a slot to put the tape in the capture card?

now there is a way of doing it without a camcorder. I'm not sure of what other things you have but you could buy a Digital8 VCR that can also play hi8 tapes.

you could find it a little cheaper on ebay but I recommend that you look for the camcorder or buy another one.
