The pH is fine. THE ALKALINITY is off. We shocked the pool and it made it worse.

  1. A shock treatment involves the chlorine and not acid. To lower the TA you use muriatic acid. This is going to also lower the pH. Only add enough to lower the pH to 7.0-7.2. Then aerate the water to bring the pH back up. Once it is back up add more acid and repeat the process. Aerate your water by creating bubbles in the pool. This releases carbon dioxide which will raise the pool's pH. Anything you add to your pool to raise or lower the TA is also going to affect the pH.

  2. you need to add a shock (acid) treatment to the pool in order to lower the pH balance. put it in while the pump is on so it gets mixed around the pool thoroughly.
