Question:

I have high blood pressure again?

I had high BP years ago (I was around 26) but lost 68lbs and had to be taken off the Atenolol I was taking. Now I'm 36 and my weight is back up again and my BP is around 150/90 on average. I started taking Hawthorn Berry extract yesterday (never tried it before, but thought i'd give it a shot). I guess I need to get back on some prescriptions again :(. Has anyone had experience with Hawthorn and is 150/90 dangerous or just at the point I should do something more serious like go to a cardiologist?

  1. Yes. You should see your cardiologist.

It may be related to your weight. The doctor can recommend some healthy food for you, and some medication for high blood pressure.

    This can help lower it:

    Don't smoke cigarettes

    Lose weight if you're overweight.

    Exercise regularly.

    Eat a healthy diet

Limit your sodium, alcohol and caffeine intake.

    Try relaxation

    Have less stress

  2. What you need to do is lose back the weight and keep it off.

  3. I dont think you should be treating your BP with drugs at this level. If it was lower at a lower weight maybe you should lose the extra pounds instead.

  4. Actually that is just over the line from "prehypertension" to hypertension. Prehypertension is 120 to 139 over 80 to 89. Beyond that, it's hypertension.

Hawthorneberry is a non-tested herbal remedy. All discussions of herbal effectiveness aside, from what I have read it repairs heart muscle. The claim is that it can be used for high blood pressure, but typically high blood pressure is not the result of damaged muscle.
