When I was work under Au Pair I got SSN then, I could work up to 45 hrs per week. I finished this program on Jan, now I'm an international student with F-1 visa. So, If I still use my SSN to work in USA... by logically I can still work as the same as before I did right? because this is the same SSN number they don't change anything( I mean the information ) on it right? Is this violate my Visa??? And I also pay tax..... oh help me please?

  1. No you are not right.

You are now in the U.S. on a different visa, your status changed from J1 to F1 and therefore you must abide by the conditions of your F1 status; i.e. no off-campus employment and any employment on-campus must not exceed 20 hours per week.

The conditions of your J1 visa no longer apply to you since you are no longer on this visa. Your SSN is irrelevant, the simple fact of the matter is this, you are not authorized to work by the USIS, you do not have a valid EAD.

By and large you should go down to your Social Securty Office and inform them of your change of status so that they can update your information and issue you with a new card, the number will be same but you will get the notation "Valid for work with DHS Authorization." - which you do not have and an employer is required by law, to see your EAD which authorizes you work legally in the U.S.

You are unable to so and are not permitted to work off-campus due to the conditions of your F1 status.
