hey. I'm getting ready to get my braces taken off that I've had on for almost 2 years, and I have a decent size gap in the front of my teeth. The orthodontist says that the retainer that I get after they're off will close them. Is that even possible? my bite is also off, so i'm not sure what to do about that either but I thought retainers were just to keep them from moving apart not together. Any ideas?

  1. The orthodontist is right. The main problem is that health issues are never black and white and seldom work out just exactly as we expected when we started on any given treatment. You can be sure that your case is not one that has not been seen before, and that the orthodontist will know how to adjust treatment in order to get the best result.

  2. retainers should get activated to cause active tooth movement. It is used for simple tooth movement. Usually retainers are used to prevent relaps of the braces treatment.
