  1. i usually change the tip of my new cues. i use blue diamond and sometimes master blue. the tip holder i can also change it to colorful ones by cutting it from billiard balls, then it is finely arc shaped and thinly smoothened by using sandpaper.

  2. knock it off - sandpaper the top of the cue level, and as a tip buy a blue diamond tip of correct size and rub it on a piece of fine sandpaper til it is also level - never use sport shop cue tip cement - always use a reputable super-glue - hold tip onto top of cue hard for at least 20 seconds - now use a fine file to toke the entire surface of the tip away - now shape it into a dome - use a nail file to make your tip smooth - your done - don't forget tips need breaking in so have a few games before expecting it to perform huge screwbacks - if it's a 2-piece I'd completely sandpaper the varnish off the thin half for perfect feathering

  3. if new tip should be ok

  4. yes,you should, The hard tip that you see on cues when they are brought are only feral protectors.

  5. New cues are supplied with transport tips which on the whole are c**p for playing with, so you should indeed get it changed.

You could go through the procedure described by the first respondent, but personally I leave it with a guy at my local snooker club and get it re-tipped there for a couple of quid.
