I have just found out an old school friend has recently died how do i find out how he died ?

Through mutual friends is the obvious and compassionate answer.

If this is not possible, his death certificate with the cause of death will have to have been shown at his local Registry.

If there is a leavers group (old boys, old girls) then the coordinator of that will have all the gossip. Mine tracked me down overseas to contribute to a fund for a memorial for a class mate who committed suicide ...

Hmm well like the other's have answered you can try community sites and/or call the deceased's family or friends. But if you still have no answer I'd look in the newspaper website...under local deaths (obituaries) of the town he/she was living in if it's known.

The only way you can find the information is by asking his family, there is nothing of that sort on the internet here in the UK .

If you know their date of birth, date and where they died you could get a copy of the death cert. at the town's registrars.

Start with the obituary. It's not that uncommon for the obit to say, "Mr. X died Sunday after a long struggle with cancer" or "John died suddenly in an auto accident."

Otherwise, your only option is to ask around. Don't be surprised if his friends know and are more open than his family. The family is probably pretty devastated right now.

Since it was recent, this is what I do.

Go to www.google.com

put in the first and last name of your individual and the word obituary.  This might get you part of the way.  You can also try the local newspaper online. If it was a tramatic death, there might be an article.

Another is to find your school's reunion page on the internet and ask another friend.  If they stayed in the area, they would have heard the gossip.

Another way is to go on myspace or facebook and find another school mate and ask them.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. We don't have enough of them and to lose one, is disheartening.
