I am nearly 39 and have just found a small painless lump in my armpit, just under the skin. I do not have any history of breast cancer, but do have plenty of history of other cancers in my family. My mother-in-law died of lymphoma and I am a bit panicked right now. I know I need to see my dr and will do so asap to get it checked out. But does anyone have any ideas.

  1. check with your docter

  2. i had a sebaceous cyst in my pit once. be sure and go to the doc, don't cancel.

  3. Don't wait to see a doctor. It could be several things besides cancer, like a cyst or fatty tumor, but you really shouldn't ignore it.

  4. It could simply be an ingrown hair or a swollen gland. To be on the safe side see a doctor like you said. But stay positive and don't think of the worst! Good luck and god bless !

  5. See your doc but don't get too worried. There are lymph nodes, cysts, all kinds of possibilities other than cancer. Hormones can play a factor. my mother recenlty had what turned out just to be a hormonal cyst in that area. The surgeon told her if it shrinks in size it isn't cancer it is caused by hormones. Keep tabs on it so you know what it has been doing.

  6. Don't worry yourself until you see the doctor.  It could just be a benign cyst.  Good luck.

  7. See your doctor, of course.

It could be a sebaceous cyst, but those are typically painful. Obviously, you can't have inherited lymphoma from your mother-in-law, but the armpits (and the neck and inside the upper thighs) are the major lymph nodes in the body; these are the "swollen glands" that you may feel during an infection. But swollen lymph nodes due to infection are typically tender to the touch. A painless lump could be a lymphoma, but it could also be many other much less scary things.

In general, but especially with cancer, early diagnosis and treatment is very important. Good luck.

  8. If you recently had an infection or the flu it could be just a swollen lymph node. get it checked out by the doctor anyways never hurts. My mother had a lump under her arm once after almost being diagnosed with lymphoma and it turned out it was just swollen after have the normal flu. So dont get worried, it could turn out to be nothing.Good luck!
