  1. Stitches do hurt when they are healing. Take some paracetamol to help relieve the pain. Ask you midwife to check they are healing well and the pain isn'tt due to infection. Also ask for a glycerin suppositry to help you go for a poo, its guaranteed to work. Alot of mums dont pass stools after stitches through fear they'll open up and also due to swelling/pain down below.

    Hope this helps

  2. Having a poo soon after birth is quite scary I think but actually I found that weeing was more painful - the pooing wasnt that bad. I used to hold my stitches tightly with a wad of toilet paper while I pushed for a poo (sorry to be graphic ha ha!!). I remember having a poo while I was still in hospital though so it wasnt long before I was functioning again down there - mind you, if you are running around after your little one and not eating much then there wouldnt be much to p**p out. I lost my appetite for ages after birth so that could be a reason. No harm in asking your midwife though, they take care of you for a small period after birth, plus they are really nice to speak to about any other issues you may have big or small. Good luck.

  3. My friends who have given birth all said they were too freaked out to go but in a few days you have to try. A week is long, ask doctor.

  4. if you havent pooed in a week, you need to call a doctor

  5. not pooing is a VERY bad thing... i wasnt allowed to leave the hospital until i had pooed and they kept giving me this sticky liquid stuff that was ment to help.. after 5 time it eventually worked but they seemed concerns (not that they said anything to me about it but when they thought i wasnt looking they got this oh no look) i would go to the doctor asap and tell her that... plus im not sure but i dont think they should hurt... except when your peeing coz they will sting like anything then!

  6. Should heal soon. Ask your Dr. when they should heal. If you haven't gone to the bathroom, is it because u have to go but scared its going to hurt? If you sit down just relax and let it come LOL I had C-sections so idk how the stitches feel but Im sure my section hurt worse to go poo LOL

  7. yeah, i agree with the others, you should have pooed by now. they gave me colace (sp?) at the hospital when i left the help make it easier..

  8. I had stitches also down below also - it takes a while for them to heal but it will get better! Drink loads of fluids and take some vitamins to help with the healing and loads of rest!

  9. I would suggest drinking 'Ural', it will help with the burning feeling when u go to pee.  I drank this after the first two deliveries and it did wonders.  Try taking some 'Metamucil', this will help if ur constapated and will make it easier when having a poo.  It's a scary thing when you have ur first bowel motion after delivery, so a healthy diet with lots of water will help, especially if ur breastfeeding.  Congrats on the birth of ur little girl and all the best;-)

    Cheers

  10. Get some lactulose - you can get it over the counter, it's a stool softener and will  make it come out easier

You have 10 days worth of food pushing down on your stiches internally, that won't help the healing process, you must do a poo or it's going to continue hurting

You should really be pooing every day if possible and keeping the stool soft

The stiches may open up a little when you go, mine did and they bled a bit - but have hot salt baths, twice a day, half a cup of salt, sit in the bath 20 minutes to bathe the area and keep it clean

My stiches got infected, you don't want to go there, the salt water is v soothing, doesn't sting at all, have the bath as hot as you can, it's very good, my Mum did the same thing when she had us and got no infection

Get pooing, get bathing, it will all come right in the end, don't worry :)

  11. you need to go to the bathroom!  by some prunes... eat like 5 or 6 of them, or drink a big glass of prune juice and it will be a lot easier when you do go.  Just stay close to the bathroom.  for me it will usually take 6-8 hrs to work but my SIL goes withing 2 so watch out.  My stitches took 6 wks to heal and it hurt a lot but just make sure your getting enough fibre and it won't hurt so bad to go.

  12. i gave birth 6 weeks ago and also had stitches.its not healthy not to excrete.you should see a dr.its not normal i had a poo the same day i gave birth and believe me it was dam soar

  13. the doctor should have said something about stool softeners to help you. cuz if you havent gone in a week its not good.

they take about 2-3 weeks to heal depending on good you take care of them and clean them.

i think my last one fell out a few days ago but i think i still may have one or two and i had my baby almost 6 weeks ago.

but when it starts itching then you know that they are healing

  14. my stitches were really painful and my mum (who has given birth 6 times) told me to pour a little salt into the bath and dry with the cool setting on my hairdryer. This really helped me, hope it makes yours feel better too x

  15. my midwife said if i didnt have a poo within 3 days of the birth then to call her, so i think you need to go see somebody

  16. Congratulations!!!

It is fine it's only been a week there's plenty time, it varies on the person. Also, the fear will be there as well making you not want to because of your stitches. Your midwife will ask you in a few days whether you have or not (ask her about it if you are still worried.) If you are on iron tablets that could be the reason why you haven't, they made me constipated. Enjoy your baby and don't worry. Good Luck xx

  17. You should be drinking lots of water.  This will help you, extra water if you already drink what you should.  When I had my first baby I had stitches and they didn't take too long to heal. I used to have a bath each night with some salt in it.  And I was terrified to go to the toilet, even having a pee was sore but you know what it wasn't all that bad and it was a relief when I did go.  Once you've done it the anxiety will go away and you wont be as worried.  It is weird and feels a bit iffy but you'll be okay.

You should give your midwife a little phone if you've still not went in a day or so.  But every-ones bowel habits are different. Some ppl go once a day some once a week! But water honestly does help :)  And congratulations

  18. i had third degree tare and so my stiches wenrt right from my v****a up into my a**s. I pooed the day after i gave birth and it wasnt bad aa all. You arent pooing because you are scared. Relax. You should be having  some metamusil drink daily to soften your stool.

As fr the stiches mine were un comfortable to move around, sit, etc for a cuople of days but the perinium heals very quickly. You may have an infection, see your doctor and get them checked.

    Enjoy your new bundle too.!

  19. i remember they do hurt for ages after for about 10 days they should be healed you have to keep them extra clean , and you need to ring the doc very bad you haven't pooed in a week

  20. Goodness me some of these answers are shocking.

FIRSTLY - DONT take stool softeners or any other type of drug to do with your bowls.  It is completely normal and natural not to have a bowl movement for a few days because you have just had a baby!!

I went 5 days before that happened and didn't worry in the slightest because a visiting midwife told me all about that.

SECONDLY I had stitches to and from my own experience I have a tip for you.  Stand up while you pee, sitting just makes the flow go towards your stitches but if you stand then the pee is going straight down.  It will still sting you but does help a little bit.

The stinging will go after a few weeks and your stitches will be healed in around 6 weeks

    I hoped this has helped.

    Congratulations on your new baby

  21. mine hurt for ages after, and i also didn't poo 4 a week and half after because i was scared just tel your midwife when she comes and sees you.
