The water company estimate that our bills should be halved by about 50%. We have paid flat rate for over two years, and have been trying to get the water company to install a meter for about 18 months. Has anyone had experience of receiving a refund from the water company/ credit on your next bill? Please give as much detail as possible.

A friend of mine said that she received credit from the water company and did not receive bills for over a year - does this sound right?

  1. it can go down and you get a reduction in your bill but it could go up where you are paying 5 or 6 times more it all depends on you and how many live in your house and how much you use the bath / shower a day our water meter is crippling us as the water bill is through the roof

  2. We had a water meter fitted about 10 years ago and our water bill dropped to less than a quarter of what it had been before.  The main reason is that there are only 2 of us living in a house with a high rateable value - water bills are based on rateable value.

We did not get a refund because the lower bills only started from when the meter was installed.  We just started paying at a lower rate (which they adjusted even lower after taking a couple of meter readings).

  3. it is cheaper metered, you can have your overpayment back in cash or deducted from next bill.

  4. I am an Anglian Water customer and I can confirm that they do indeed refund credit sums to you.  As for not receiving a bill for over a year, I don't this is correct and your friend may well be mistaken.

  5. You obviously haven't had your first bill, the first 12 months are not read off the meter, they are calculated form your previous 12 months (this is what i was told by anglian water) then after the 12 months they read the meter if you have used less than what they thought you get a rebate, or vice versa, as for a refund, they say they should fit a water meter in no more that 13 weeks but we had to wait nearly 12 for ours, also the bill estimator on the net is wrong, when i quoted the faqs to them from there web site the girl on the phone told me it was wrong and there is nothing you can do. you also have to take into consideration the cost of removing the waste, i hope you win but i wont hold my breath good luck......
