I have just paid £1 for a scratch card and won £1, How can I win £1 if thats what it cost me to buy it?

Your money was already gone when you exchanged it for a scratch card, so any win was a real win, even if you only got a pound back. It's not as if you could have gotten it back any other way.

The return on scratch offs are very low, around ~50% i beleive.  Ane example of a simple 50% return scheme might be

one in two cards wins your money back, the other cards lose

Scratch off cards are the worst way to gamble that i am aware of.

Think of it as a break-even, not a win, but not a loss either.

     For scratchcards though £1 is a win as its on av. 1 in 5 people get something, even if what they get is just a break even!

     You still beat 4 other people to get that break-even, so it is a bit of an achevement, even a win if you like!

no u did not win your dollar you just got your money back it is called breaking even  and if that is making you have a bad day then I would hate to see your day if you did not even get your money back

No, you are not thick. You just "broke even." You spent a pound, you lost a pound. You are where you were before you bought the ticket.

You could say you just lost some time but if you enjoyed it, who cares?

It just means you got a free scrath card! Better than paying £1 and getting nothing back! PLUS if you won the jackpot you'd also me getting your money back but with a h**l of a lot more on top!

In this day and age You should count Yourself lucky that You never lost a quid. You would have still moaned if You'd won £1.01 from a £1 scratchcard.
