The bulk of my family live in Woking Surrey and my mother is one of the last white non muslim people living on what used to be a better class of working class estate in the area. There have been a number of incidents involving young muslims and racial taunts etc towards the few remaining elderly whites. I now read that an injured soldier returning from Afghanistan was refused a room at this local hotel simply because he was a serving soldier. (google woking news and mail) the local paper. What are your views?

  1. The hotel in question was the Metro, and I hope it collapses. The management (if you can call it that) want shooting.

  2. I read this article.

Its a shame the "manager" refused to be interviewed.

Phone or E-mail the Metro Hotel, Woking, with your opinion

  3. It's Tommy this and Tommy that and "Tommy, how's your soul?"

But its thin red line of heroes when the drums begin to roll.

  4. Unfortunately as an ex soldier I have been turned away from establishments in the past.

I don't see what anyone's job has to do with their suitability to sleep in a certain hotel, if the guy had used his driver's licence as ID they would have been none the wiser. Some hotels participate in a forces discount scheme so I reckon he was testing the water to see if he qualified there.

The UK has always had a low opinion of their armed forces and it displays a huge ignorance on behalf of the public.

As for the Muslim factor, it's completely unrelated, the turning away of squaddies has been going on since long before there were as many Muslims in the UK, It first happened to me in the early 80's

  5. I am indifferent

  6. Yup, its not just that soldier either its quiet common.

if they are going to stop controversal people from entering building how about a clamp-down on priests, or army medics. Its a joke really, I mean if people have a problem with the war tell the government, soldiers as just pawns in the game really, they shouldn't be blamed for anything.

  7. I don't get it.

But in seriousness, while I don't agree with their catchall policy (i.e. no servicepeople what so ever), I can understand where it might be based.  While most agree it's wrong to deny a single solider accomodation because he's a soldier, I imagine the management intention was to discourage groups of soldiers... with the stereotypical behaviour that might accompany them.

While I don't agree with the decision to turn him away, I don't think many people would want to sleep next to a room full of rowdy soldiers - I imagine that's the scenario the management was trying to avoid.

I'm not saying all groups of soldiers would be rowdy ;)

  8. I don't see a connection between the two statements.  The Hotel Manager has stated his staff-member acted wrongly, but in fairness, has the following never happenned?  Soldiers drink too much, cause trouble and take a whole lot of controlling, with thier combat skills to overcome?

  9. this isn't a joke or riddle, why here?

  10. What the h**l do the 2 examples you have given have to do with each other? OK the hotel thing was a bit shocking, but the type of thing you are talking about on your mums estate is happening all over the country and it isn't just Muslims causing the trouble.

Also, why have you posted this in the jokes and riddles section????
