Question:

I have just rebuilt my 253 v8 and the push rods dont move the tapperds that much could my lifters be stuffed

they only move a real little if you push down on the tapperds with your thumb they move real good

  1. yeah are they the right pushrods?  and it might sound silly- but you are checking them with the cams in the right spot yeah?


  2. Perhapse your pushrods aren't the correct length?

  3. mate it sounds like your lifters need oil in them.  They build up pressure as the oil drips down from the pipe that connects to the tappet shaft,the oil then drips down through the push rods,and finally into the lifters,which gives your valve clearance!.  Happy motoring!!!

  4. you need to replace your tapperds with tappets.

    sounds like your lifters need deglazing.

  5. sounds like your rocker arms arent tight enough, this is what i was taught on how to install them, tighten them down finger tight, them tighten them three full turns with a socket wrench. you shouldnt be able to take them out without taking the rocker arms out first.
