Question:

I have just recently stopped eating meat. Is there a way to have truly humane eggs and dairy nationally?

I have read that Organic Valley deals only with human dairy farms? Is that true and are there any places that don't de-beak and torture hens?

  1. I would recommend finding a local farm and purchasing from them. You don't have to live way out in the county to achieve this either - some people raise animals for themselves but generate more than just one family can eat. I would recommend asking at a local health food store to see if anyone knows of such a farm in your area. You might also want to consider drinking goats milk too - I raised two children on this as I could not find a local dairy farm I was happy with the way animals were treated. Hopes this helped.

  2. Not really, most farms do..Its sad. Try a local place, where you know they don't.

  3. Human dairy farms???

    That is weird.

    yeah there is =]]

  4. Niomaxazambuini (coon tail hair)- 4 all u know is that u HAVE 2 give chickens antibiootics.. so your saying that when your sick you dont take antibodtics??? and have chickens eat a vegetarian diet?? r u f*ckin serous? 4 all u know chickens eat small bugs, like mealy worms... oh and bout little male cows you have proff of this cause i've already sold a yearling bull 4 12,000$(USD) and garentee that their not gona make that much from veal on 1 baby bull

but back 2 the question... get it from a local farm..... and de-beak, people just dont understand that you CANT de-beak a d**n chicken thats like takin your jaw away

  5. try to find a local farm in your area that just sells eggs locally.

Read the above. There is NO way to have "humane" eggs or dairy. What do you think happens to the animals afterwards? Nice peaceful burial? They are slaughtered like the rest of them.

  7. Human dairy farms?? That I gotta see!!!

There are many places. Usually, the smaller the operation the more humane they have time to be.

  8. Humane dairy farms and egg farms...lets see...eggs, yes, dairy never!

The most humane egg farms would be local farms that do not cage their hens, do not mutilate or alter them in any way, gives the hens access to full pasture, feed them a full vegetarian diet with no antibiotics or added hormones, and are not killed once their prodcuction slows or stops, they are simply put to pasture to live out thier lives cratching and pecking in the dirt till they pass peacefully of old age. There is a place by my house that does just that. In fact their 7 year old daughter stated that she will never go to college if they ever kill any of their chickens or ducks after they are done producing eggs. Farms like this are few and far between, but htey do exist.  laughinghenfarms.com is the place I am referring to.

As far as dairy goes...never...it is one huge circle of cruelty...the milk that dairy products is made from is produced by mother cows and is intended to feed the baby cow that was born.  Cows dont naturally automatically produce milk. They have to have a baby in order to do so and that is where the cruelty comes into play. That baby calf, if female will be taken form the mother and put into a holding crate and fed an artificial "milk" diet and weened quickly only to be turned into the same fate as its mother.  Males calves on the other hand have an even worse future ahead of them for veal production.  Some male calves are taken away and sold to facilities that make cheap veal tv dinners and is called "bob" veal. These babies are killed within hours of their lives. Other male calves are raised in crates and eventually are slaughtered at the tender age of 6 months old.
