She has it pretty bad and is on all sorts of medication to help her. I get advice on her condition from the top specialist in the country through my work (see profile) but have been told a condition of this is to follow his advice by the book, including her diet. She currently has Eukanuba FP dermatosis complete dried food. What things can I do around the house to help her condition? I have a cat as well, and hoover every day to try to pick up any dustmites. Any more ideas?

  1. Buy a cheap steam cleaner £30 or so and anything that is not movable like cushions, give 'em a once over every now and then.

Well done, you are one animals hero.

  2. I have a dog which is allergic to dust mites, I brought an air purifier and a dehumidifier to try to keep the dust down, I have laminated flooring and try to keep the rooms where she spends most of her time minimalist, no dust collecting furniture or ornaments, I damp wipe the surfaces and vac all over including walls etc, and she sleeps on an anti-allergy quilt covered by a waterproof quilt protector (made for kids sold in Argos), this is covered by a cotton quilt cover which is washed at very high temperature, I wash her bedding every few days her toys also get washed at high temp.  All food is stored in airtight containers and I only buy small bags.  Try to keep her off the upholstered furniture and out of bedrooms as they tend to have more dust. Use a vac with a good heppa filter or anti-allergy. You can also use a steam cleaner.

There are some websites which discuss how to cut down on the dust mite they are not pet websites though but the tips for keeping down dust mites are useful and some of the sites endorse products which are anti-allergy.

  4. when i was growing up my family had a pekingese that was suffering with severe dermintitus, my family spent a fortune at the vets trying all kind of things to stop it.it was suffering so much and over a long period of time our vet advised us to have it put down so they brought him home to say goodbye for a few days. my mum was upset an let the house go a bit ,but strangely the dog started looking like he was healing. it actualy turned out to be some cleaning product that she used. my dog got better an lived another 10 years and after there was no more trips to the vets
