Question:

I have just seen my 10 m old m cockatiel mating my 6 m old hen im hoping she is too young to produce eggs?????

thanks to the three poeple who have answerd my question and havent insulted me or my dyslexia its the first qestion i have asked and was not sure on how to word it with the charecters that were left i wasnt looking to breed them i no how old they need to be to breed i just was not sure if it could happen with her being so young.i have 7 cockatiels and 2 pairs of them are all male so i havent seen this behaviour before im going to keep chicco and dora apart for now

  1. Hen cockatiel's aren't mature enough to produce eggs until they are one year old.  Once she is a year old she will lay a clutch with or without a male or nest box.


  2. Your Cockatiels are too "Young" to breed ,if you can separate them for a few months,then you will have more succes,you could cause Egg binding in your hen and this could lead to her death.

    So don't let them breed yet ,till they are at least 12,months.

  3. Hi,

    The male cockatiel is definitely old enough to breed, but as for the hen then there is a chance that she's ready to breed so there is a very small chance that she will lay eggs so be prepared.
