  2. What you will be doing in the first few weeks of training really depends on what the instructor has assigned to cover at that time. You will most likely be instructed on break falls right off. This is important when working on throws. Judo work out can be very intense. There are some schools that will include more ground work into their training along with throws and some (very few) take downs. It sounds like you are looking for something along this line. Go to the gym and ask question to know for sure. I can almost guarantee you that there will be no cement blocks to break, because there are no strikes in judo. If you train as most Judokas train then, yes, judo will help you build muscles. Again the workouts I attend are intense. I study Jujitsu, but do cross train in Judo on occasion to work on my throws. I hope this helps.

  3. You sound like kind of a young guy, so let me break down Judo in a simple way for you:

Judo is based on ending a fight via throw, joint submission, or choke.

It is a very effective art, and from what I've seen, does wonders in improving discipline, strength, physique, and agility.

...though the point of taking a Martial Art should not be primarily based on those things. :)

But yes, I give Judo a full recommendation to just about any healthy person.
