If you were working in the month of Jan 2008 you were working for 10 months in the financial year 2007-2008. If you are a resident male individual and your total income exceeds Rs. 1,10,000 before deductions under Chapter VI A (Life Insurance, Medicliam, Donations, ELSS,etc) you need to file your return.

if u have been working from apri 01,2007 and Jan 31 2008 and the total earnings were more than the taxable amount for the full financial year, then u HAVE to file a return. But if your total income ( less allowed deductions ) was less than the taxable limits there is no need to file a return.
