  1. Anju,

The black stool (f***s or sh*t) you are passing is most likely due to the iron tablets you are taking.

A black stool caused by food, supplements, medication, or minerals is known as "false melena." Iron supplements, taken alone or as part of a multivitamin for iron-deficient anemia, may cause stools to be black or even greenish in color. Foods that are dark blue or black in color may also cause black stools. Substances that can cause false melena are:

    Black licorice

    Blueberries

    Iron supplements

    Lead

    Bismuth (Pepto-bismol)

Your physician or any lab can do a quick and easy test for blood in the stool.  Because you have a very low hemoglobin, the physician should first determine what is the cause of the anemia.  Is it bleeding in the intestines or stomach?  Is it due to an abnormal hemoglobin?  Anemia is NOT a disease but it is a sign of something else going on that is causing the anemia.  Could it be a parasite?  Some types of anemia are made worse by giving iron tablets and may not result in any improvement with iron tablets.  Get an accurate diagnosis as to the cause of your anemia.
