Question:

I have maggots in my hog pen,how can i get rid of them with out harming my animal?

Half of the pen is concrete and half dirt...

well righ now its mudd because it has stormed every day so the maggots are in mudd..

I can move the animal while its being treated

  1. Take out all the old dirt, clean the enclosure and replace it with new dirt

  3. you need to clean the sh*t out of the pen. Regularly.

  4. I remember my grandmother's free-ranging chickens catching flys and maggots from the hog styes!  Maybe you can borrow a few chickens for maggot patrol!

    There are beneficial nematods sold at garden centers handling organic gardening materials that may be useful.  It wouldn't be immediate effect but would likely be long lasting.

    A third method could be insecticidal diatomaceous earth.  It is microscopic glass shells of algae called diatoms.  It would damage the maggots but harmless to people and your hog.  The product should be available from garden centers or nurseries.

  6. I've never raised a hog but I do know that if you wait a couple of days the maggots will turn into flies and fly away.
