  1. Remington UMC (Union Metallic Cartridge Co.) is simply a brand name.

The "official" name of the .45ACP Round Is .45 Automatic Colt Pistol.

It is also refered to simply as .45 auto or .45 automatic.

All of these rounds are exactly the same thing.

About the only cartridges that you cannot shoot in your gun that might cause some confusion are the .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol) and the .45 LC (Long Colt).

Neither of these cartridges LOOK like a .45ACP.

If it LOOKS like a .45ACP, it is.

The Only .45 ACP cartridges you shouldn't use are the steel jacketed bullet WWII surplus Thompson SMG rounds. These are rarely found anymore, and about the only way you'd run across them is buying a bag of old mixed .45 ACP ammo at a gun show.  They generate too much pressure for pistols.

  2. Son, please learn to use punctuation so people reading can actually understand what you mean.

All of these are different ways of meaning the SAME caliber:

    .45 ACP

    .45 Auto

    .45 Auto Colt Pistol

    .45 Automatic

    .45 Automatic Colt Pistol

  3. The caliber of your pistol is .45 acp ("acp" means Automatic Colt Pistol.  That means that the caliber was originally specific to the Colt .45 Automatic.  Now other manufacturers chamber pistols in this same caliber).  The .45 acp is sometimes also called .45 Auto (short for Automatic Colt Pistol).  In the case of Remington UMC 'Remington' is the ammo brand and 'UMC' is the ammo type (target or practice ammo rather than hollow-point or defensive ammo).

If the ammo is the same size and rimless it will work.  If it says '.45 GAP, or .45 Colt and is much longer and has a big rim' it is the wrong ammo for your pistol.  Just tell the ammo vendor that you need .45 acp ammo.

  4. You're OK...your weapon fires .45 acp. No matter who the manufactorer is, as long as it's labeled ".45 ACP ammunition, it's good to go.

  5. don't worry about it, because as long as .45 ACP is on the box, no matter who the manufacturer is, it will still fire in the gun. you can go out and get Winchester .45 ACP, Remington .45 ACP, Federal Premium .45 ACP, Black Hills .45 ACP, Nosler .45 ACP,Hornady .45 ACP, Magtech .45 ACP, PMC .45 ACP; IT DOESN'T MATTER! as long as .45 ACP is on the box, you're good to go.

  6. acp means automatic colt pistol

remington umc is just the brand name I think.

  7. Jason, the ammo should not be a problem.  The problem is for a young fellow to try to learn gun handling skills, marksmanship, and firearms safety when his first handgun is a .45 automatic pistol.

Let me urge you to purchase a Ruger .22/45 and use it to learn to handle a firearm safely, and inexpensively.  You can get 500 rounds of ammo for less than what you paid for those Remington .45's.

Some folks knock Llamas, but I won't.  My sole complaint is that Llama .45's have a tendency to bite the web of my hand on every shot.

    Good Luck and Good Shooting,

    Doc
