I have mercruiser engine 140 hp (2.5 - 4 cylinders) gm?

I would like to know if this motor is same like 2.5 gmc for car also if i can used a car engine on boats thanks

  1. most boat motors are the same block as a car motor but are re- engeried for marine use. most car parts will work. ie. belts . hoses . coils . plugs, points.  good luck.

Car motors aren't the same as boat motors, and really cannot be adapted as such.  Marine motors are cammed and timed differently,  to give them more constant torque.  Other parts are of different materials, to counter corrosion.  Electrical parts are marine rated, to prevent accidental ignition.  It's been tried to death, and doesn't work

  3. No, the 140 is actually a 181 or 3.0 liter.  You cannot use car parts for it.  You are better off using mercruiser parts.  They are made for marine as automotive applications are not.
