  1. you may, but that's medical yuo can't help that

  2. Yes you will probably beep. Good luck.

  3. I have a metal rod in my ankle and I have never beeped at the airport metal detector.  Your rod is prob. bigger tham mine so you may.  They will pull you to the side and scan you with the hand scanner.  You can get a doctors note that you have metal in your back.  This may help.

  4. Most likely, I've had people tell me that they had a metal hip, then they pass through without a problem.  It depends on what kind of metal your rods are made of.

Just tell the screener when you reach the front of the line that you have the metal rods so you don't have to go through the metal detector twice.  Then tell the screener that uses the hand wand that you have the rods.  They'll pat down your back when they get to that point, but since the rods are inside, they won't feel anything, and you should be on your way rather quickly.

A card isn't really necessary.  We were told never to even look at cards like that, since we don't want anything influencing our judgement as far as clearing alarms.

Make sure though that anything metal in your pockets is sent through the X-Ray.  You are most likely going to get hand-wanded anyway, so anything metal is just going to make the process longer.

  5. Yes and it is funny if the person who is watching the machine hasn't seen it happen before!

  6. Yes if you walk through any metal detector with metal internaly or externaly you will cause the beeper to go off however after you empty your pockets tell the security guard of your bar and walk through the beeper again and he might take the hand held metal detector to your back just to be safe and then your good to travel

  7. Yes most likely you will. Before traveling I would visit my Doctor and ask them for a letter explaining you have metal rods in your back.

I know when my dad had a knee replacement he did set off metal detectory (pre 9/11) and they had given him a card to show airport security stating that he had an artificial knee. So, I am sure they can do something similar for you if you need to travel.

  8. Most likely.

Just make sure security  know this and they will give you special screening.

  9. Y'know, just to be contrary, I'm going to say that you can but you most likely won't.  I've flown a great deal since my fusions and I've only been detected once and that was in Germany.  I've never had problems in the US.  So it all depends on how sensative the metal detector is.
