  1. It's not rocket science but it does require some attention to detail and materials called butt connectors, a crimping tool and electrical tape.  Here's a web site which you'll have to paste together as they don't come through well on YA:

  2. Umm, get a gas lawn mower.

  3. Some years back, I had a cousin who was electrocuted with his lawn mower.  The wire's insulation was cracked, the dew was on the grass, the line  wire got wet, his shoes were wet, the current sent from the line to the mower to him and to the ground.  Making a complete circuit, it killed him.  Get a new cord.  Good luck.

  4. I would go to Lowe's or Home Depot and see if they have a replacement cord for your lawn mower. Yikes...that must have been scary.  When my husband and I bought our lawn mower, I expressed my concern about that with having an electric one. So we have a gas powered one. I'm too chicken to use an electric one. :-)

  5. Yes it can. Call an electrical mechanic or learn how to do it yourself for a lot cheaper.

  6. All these concerns about getting electrocuted - make sure it is plugged into a GFCI outlet and you will be much safer.  You can either replace the cord (probably cheapest) or buy a plug and socket set that you wire to the cut ends of the present cord.  If one of the ends is long enough to do the job, just get the piece for that end (plug or receptacle) and that is very safe.

  7. It can be but it is no longer suitable for outdoor use.  (waterproof).  Will you risk your life to save a few bucks?  Replace it!
