It is my first free trade pub and I would like to hear some ideas as to how to get the best deal from them?

  1. You could also ask them about how they see themselves developing their products over the next 4/5 years.

Also what they can do for you as a free trade pub.

  2. Price, marketing and support.

Bottom line is what price they will sell to you at, what volumes they expect you to sell and any additional discounts for larger turnover. Payment terms.

Why do they think you should stock their beer? What's their main competition and why are they better? What will they do to help you promote it? Posters, offers, merchandising etc

How quick can they deliver if you suddenly need extra? Availability of engineer for breakdown on the line. Phone assistance in case of problems.

  3. Whatever you do, dont ask if they make White Lightning, the drink of choice for tramps and under 13's. They only get defensive.

  4. if it's your pub as in real free trade shop around you need to know barrelage discount if it's a busy pub [over about 5 barrels a week ] you can with careful negotiations get up to one hundred pounds a barrel discount also negotiate soft drinks spirits are cheaper from the supermarket as are bottled beers unless you get a very good deal from a brewery so the message is basically s***w them as hard as you can for discounts and don't forget the back up items such as glasses ashtrays bar towels promotions and any thing else you can get
