I have my first cross country race saturday I'm so nervous I'm a freshman on varsity what is a good time?

I should shoot for?

what should i eat?

how should i prepare?

anyways how not to get nervous?

  1. Only you know what you are capable of. Stay away from dairy products and just eat a few granola bars or some fruit. Get a full night sleep and you'll be ready for anything. Being nervous gets your adrenaline pumping which makes your body stronger. Just make sure you don't go all out during the beginning. Some runners try to be in the lead once the race starts but end up using up all of their energy. Pacing yourself and sprinting at the end is the way to go..

    All your questions are sort of relative:

    time to shoot for. I don't know what you did in practices.

    What to eat: I used to eat a banana and piece of toast. I know some guys who use to eat 7 or 8 pancakes. It's best to eat too little as oppose to too much. Especially if you  are nervous. It stops the puking if you get too nervous.

    A lot of people get nervous because they are worried about what others think. To heck with them. You go out and challenge yourself.

    During the race try to find someone, team or opponent, and run with them. It makes racing easier.

    Don't go out too hard. If it's your first race you have no idea what's going to happen. It's best to have more energy in the second half of the race. Some are so nervous or exceited they go out to fast and then hurt the second half.

    Remember, there are many other runners out there not just you.

    Most of all, ENJOY. It is competition. Take it serious. But enjoy. That's why you went out in the first place right? To be with friends and you enjoy running. I've never heard of somebody go out for a sport because they hated it.

  3. First off dont kill yourself in the first mile out of excitement! Eat pasta!!!! the night before, go to bed early and drink plenty of water. Good day to not drink soda's. Listen to music before the race. Do a relaxed warm up! and draft off the person in front of you, unless your winning.

  4. A good time is to beat the time you ran it in last time. Eat lots of pasta the night before. Have fun!
