I live in jamaica and as you guys may already know, the people here are very unfriendly towards g**s. My boyfriend was killed a few weeks ago because they found out about us and now i'm afraid that they may be after me too. I have a visitor's U.S visa but if i leave the island i won't ever want to return. i would like to know if there's any process i could go through to get asylum in the U.S, U.K or Canada. I really need to know.

  1. My father is Jamaican and believe me, I know exactly what you mean. He is 1000% against homosexuality.

On the other hand, it's a good idea for you to leave. You should apply for asylum and prove your case. I hope everything works out for you.

  2. Perhaps is not a good idea to be g*y in Jamaica

Try something else and maybe it would be better for you

Besides, it must be painful doing that the wrong way, I think

  3. Sexual orientation is one ground on which to apply for asylum.  Each asylum application is reviewed individually and will depend on the particular facts of your case (what happened to you in your country and what you fear may happen if you return) and the conditions in your country.

Filing for asylum is a very serious decision and you should consult with an attorney before filing.

    The asylum application consists of:

    Immigration Form I-589.   http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms...

A declaration (detailed personal statement by the applicant)

Corroborating documents (medical reports, police reports, letters from witnesses, etc.) to back up the applicant’s story

Country conditions documentation (human rights reports, newspaper articles, reports from expert witnesses) demonstrating how the government treats LGBT or HIV-positive people in your country.

  4. I'm no expert, but I have heard of cases where people are allowed to stay in the U.S. if they can show their lives are threatened if they return back.

  5. The UK has a support group for exactly this type of asylum called the Asylum Support Group.  Canada has Egale Canada to assist in immigration based on sexuality based persecution.

I am so sorry to hear that this kind of thing persists into the year 2008.  I am also very sorry for your loss.

  6. you should be eligible for asylum in the US and other countries like Spain, Netherlands, France, Canada, UK.
