I have my team’s support – Felipe Massa
Felipe Massa recently stated that he feels reassured about his position at Ferrari after recent words of support from Ferrari’s team president Lucas di Montezemolo.
After the Japanese Grand Prix, there were many suggestions that Felipe Massa was not performing up to Ferrari’s expectation after Lucas encouraged the Brazilian in the build-up to the race at Suzuka. “I have waited for Felipe with great perseverance in the
last four races. I want a strong Massa who will shave points off the rivals,” said Lucas.
Massa crashed out of the Japanese Grand Prix this Sunday on the very first lap. Due to this disappointing result, there is even more speculation about his relationship with the team, and Ferrari was keen to play it down. However, Montezemolo is still encouraging
and supporting the Brazilian and believes that he will be the surprise of the final three races left in the season. “I'm sure that he will be the surprise of the last three races of the season. After this bad day he will be desperately keen to react and we
will do everything to give him the possibility to win,” he added.
Felipe thinks that even though he is going through a particularly difficult time right now as compared to mid season, a lack of result in the past couple of races has really affected his chances for a drive with the team next year. However, the Brazilian
thinks that he can count on the support of his team. Felipe praised his team as he said that Ferrari has always been there to help him out in every situation enabling him to deliver a hundred percent on track. He mentioned on his blog that he is very pleased
with his team president Lucas di Montezemolo as he said after the Japanese Grand Prix that he still has faith in the Brazilian.
“I truly appreciate that he has an excellent understanding of the sport and he knows that you can sometimes go through tough times. The fact his support is always there is very important,” he added.
Felipe Massa intends to turn his results around in the final three races of the season in order to keep his seat in the team. Felipe has been claiming since the beginning of the season that the tyres this season are completely different from the ones last
year and he is facing a lot of difficulty getting used to them. Michael Schumacher has been complaining about the same problem but one has to admit, the other drivers are dealing with the exact same situation and Massa is in no position to complain about such
petty things as his teammate Fernando Alonso is driving the same car with the same characteristics.
The season is almost over now and if such experienced drivers like Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa cannot get used to the tyres in more than 7-8 months, then one can expect them to complain the exact same issue next year as well. It is quite disappointing
to see these drivers complain race after race without even making an effort to improve their performance.
Massa’s desire is to do as well as he can for himself and for his team. Things are still the same between him and his team and his approach to the sport has been the same ever since he started racing in the Formula 1. He believes that he will have to maintain
a positive approach especially as the team is locked into a very tough fight for the drivers’ title. The constructors’ championship has become very difficult to achieve this year however, the drivers’ title will only be achievable if the team puts in a 110%
effort and that is what he vows to ensure for the last three races of the season.
