I have never played golf before. More important than the 'How to Play' is the 'What to Wear' - HELP!

Question

It's a stag do this Friday. I've never been on one, and never played golf. I'll be teeing off in 48 and a bit hours, and I'm panicking - I'll admit it.

I don't mind playing the clown and hacking away blindly at a small ball balanced on an over-sized toothpick. But it's what I WEAR while I do it that's hacking me right off. I know that a polo shirt is good, but what else? HELP!

What an embarrasing question...you shouldn't play golf or any other sport for that matter..stick to shopping and knitting

Just wear long pants (cotton), no jeans, not tight - make sure you're confortable in them. If you live in a warm climate, shorts a fine, but make sure they are not too short. Polo shirts are fine, collar is a must on most courses. Socks, sport shoes or rent a pair of golf shoes at the club house. Baseball cap. You've plenty of advice now but I would invest in some good golf clubs because this may be your first game but it won't be your last you only need one game to get hooked. enjoy your day and good luck to the groom

Polo shirt and slacks or Bermuda shorts if it is in a hot climate.  Since you probably don't have golf shoes, then tennis shoes will suffice.

A smart top, baggy pants, cap and make sure your shirt is tucked in. Now you can use that driver to get a hole-in-one on a par 5.

Nice shorts, a breathable shirt (microfiber) and socks and golf shoes. Maybe a hat if you wear hats

You sound like my girlfriend.  Just get some nice pants and put on a collared shirt.  If you suck at golf, you dont want to dress the part as if you can actually play.  Trust me on this one.  The stupidest looking person is the guy who has all the fancy equipment and clothes and then hacks up the joint.  Dress to blend in to the crowd.
