I have never played guitar ever, im a bassist

and my friend has never played bass, we want to switch instruments during a show and play a song on each others instruments, would smells like teen spirit by nirvana be a good song to do this with?

yeah seems easy enuff, it would take a lil practice but yeah its pretty easy i play both bass and guitar,

I would say yes as you pretty much use power chords for this on guitar and play the same notes on bass..and as I'm sure you know (and if you didn't you do now..) the first four strings on a bass are the same on a guitar..but as with any performance, you should practice playing each others instruments before you do it... you might end up with a train wreck if you don't.
