  2. no i never seen one before

but i have ride a plane before

  3. Nope

  4. Yes. It was with United Airlines last summer.

  5. i've never seen the pilot when i'm on a plane

  6. I have been on several flights with female pilots. I did not get to watch them fly because of the door being closed, but I presume that the women did actually fly the aircraft.

    Regards,

    Dan

  7. Women pilots are so numerous nowadays that it isn't much of a surprise anymore.

  8. Many times.

My wife's airline has female pilots.

  9. Yes. I saw a man and woman in the cockpit of a Southwest flight I was on.

  10. I've been on one flight flown by the co-pilot who was female. In general, though, I agree that pilots tend to be male.

There may be numerous reasons for this:

    - Already in childhood, boys tend to be more fascinated by planes, trains and such than girls. (How many girls want to be a train engineer?)

    - Spatial intelligence is required for pilots, and women usually have less training in that.

    - The main purpose of the pilot's job is dealing with a machine, while most women prefer people jobs.

    - Also, although no airline will ever admit it, some airlines might be concerned that their passengers will be frightened about flying with a female pilot. There are certainly stereotypes about women's skills or lack thereof (some warranted, others unwarranted, I guess). In particular, men are usually considered less emotional, which may mean that they might be better at keeping their cool in case of emergency.

    - Finally, in some countries, airline passengers might find it culturally unacceptable to fly with a female pilot (in Saudi Arabia, women aren't even allowed to drive). So an airline hiring a woman probably cannot employ her as flexibly as a man. Although for big airlines, this should not be a problem since they have so many routes.

  11. Never actually SAW one, but I've been on many planes flown by women.

  12. No.  There are a bazillion times more male than female pilots, probably for a number of reasons, one of them being that pilots have to have really good spatial skills, and men tend to be better at that.  You wonder why,  then, can they spend fifteen minutes looking for the peanut butter that's right in front of them!
