I have no cigarette lighter in my car how do I wire one in to my car?

Question

I have an old Vaxhaull nova.

I want to put a satnav in put there is no cigarette lighter in my car.

I have been told I can install one but how hard is it to do??

I have very moden cd player and cd changer in the car.

Would it cost much for someone to fit the lighter in for me??

Obviously what you are trying to do is fit an accessory power supply (which is just the posh name for a cig lighter really)

If you know where a cig lighter would have been fitted in your car, had it been a higher spec vehicle, there will probably already be a supply cable in that position.  You really need a manual with a wiring diagram to know what to look for.

If you do have the necessary cable there you can get the lighter unit, either from a dealer or from a breakers yard and fit it.

electrics always cost mate lol lol but a cigg lighter is easy to fit ............ all you need to do is go to your local car spares shop buy a new one !!! (cigg lighter) red wire + to the live on the battery (with a 30 amp inline fuse) and the black wire - ground that to the chassis of the car thats it all done good luck !!!

Instead of putting in a cigarette lighter why dont you just wire the satnav into your electricial system somewhere or run a power to the fuse block. I cut the end off my radar detector and wired it in so i dont have any wires showing and its not in the cigarette plug.

Are you are installing a ac/dc inverter or something that draws a  massive power supply? go from the battery

if this is for a cell phone charger it can be spliced in from behind the dash of a clock,stereo,or fuse box.Ther red and yellow wire on the stereo  is a power source. The after market stereo usually leaves a tag or fuse that states the wire being a power source or  just use a simple continuity tester or test light to search for power. Some times the key needs to be on because the source does not have a constant power source. Make the ground as short as possible.

There should be a place where a cigarette lighter can be fitted although it will look like it's been blanked off.  A cigarette lighter/12 V AC socket is also handy for charging up your mobile phone.
