hi this morning i woke up to find that there was no water coming the taps in my house except the cold bathroom tap. but now we have cold water coming through the kitchen tap aswell. i phoned the water board and they said there has been a burst pipe and that could be causing it. but if it was a burst pipe wouldn't i have no water at all? so is there any suggestion why there is water coming through the hot tap.

thanks

  1. Most likely there's a problem with your water heater.

Believe it or not there's a big freaking tank (or not if you have one of those new fancy tankless ones) sitting in your home somewhere. It heats your water for you, the city doesn't send out hot water to your home :)

Mine is behind an ugly faux wood panel in the laundry room.

Of course apartments usually have a big boiler or something of the sort.

  2. Probably just the remaining water in your water heater.

  3. why dont ya boil a kettle if ya need some hot water??

  4. Check your hot water heater.  You may have a burned out heating element or a blown fuse.  You're right about the burst pipe.  You would have no water at all.  The heater would still be filling up as you turn on the "hot" tap.  Its releasing the water in the tank.....just not heating it.
