  1. Let  j^(-2/3) be X then

    X^2 - 13X + 36 = 0

    (X - 9) (X - 4) = 0

    X = 9 or X = $

    So

    j^-2/3 = 9  Power to (-3/2) both side

    j = 9^(-3/2) = j = 1/27

    j^-2/3 =4 --> j = 1/8

    Answer j = 1/27 or j = 1/8

  2. Let x = j^-2/3.  Then

    j^(-4/3) - 13j^(-2/3) + 26 = x^2 - 13x + 36 = 0

    Solve the quadratic.  Resubstitute and solve the two equations you end up with.
