I have no idea what career I would like or even what area of study I want to pursue when I go into a 4 year college. I'm currently attending a two year community college as a Liberal Arts major. I have such a hard time figuring out what I'm good at and even what I enjoy. Does anyone have any advice for this completely lost college student?

  1. Hey, I have just graduated with a design degree and spent all my school, college and uni years not making decisions about my career. I managed to get a good degree, but still dont have a job. I suggest you really do think about what you want to do and if you decide to do further study on a subject think about what kind of job you will get in the end. i never thought about the fact I would eventually be in the real world and now wish I hadnt followed my heart and did something sensible and boring like working in the bank.  I wish you all the best - Good Luck!!

  2. everyone feels lost dealing with this question.  it gets worse too - at the moment of graduation "so what are you going to do now"  even after - trying to find a job that fits you and you enjoy.  my best advice to you is try not to stress too much about it - stick with the liberal arts.  half of getting through college is just the degree and proving you made the commitment to the work to complete it.  it really don't matter as much what the area of study is.  plus even if you do want to pick a major you usually don't have to do it until the end of your second year in a 4 year program.

  3. Well. . .following your "heart" is VERY important.  Do some INTROSPECTION.  Do you like helping people. . . maybe think about being a doctor.  If you like to draw. . .think about being an "art" major.  If you like arguing. . .consider being an attorney.  If you like teaching people. . .of course consider being a teacher.  And if you find yourself lying a lot. . . . .CONSIDER BEING A POLITICIAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. i am wrestling with this for my son.  Nobody helped me understand a good path to follow and i didn't find a good path until much later and lots of debt.  look at your hobbies see if there is any pattern of sameness. Quiz your parents ask them things that you were crazy about. once you see a direction find people to shadow in that field.

And  that big book of occupations is not all encompassing.  there are new fields emerging all the time.

i give advice opposite of most...DO NOT take your time deciding.
