I recently installed windows xp sp2 on a IBM thinkpad (which was designed for xp) and i cant connect to the internet. I go to control panel, I select network connections and nothing shows up on the page. I went to the help section and it said that there should be links to LAN and wireless connection pages. I don't know what to do and i am no expert please help. I have to use this computer for school which starts soon.

  1. macs are so much easier to operate

  2. You may need to get the driver for your LAN, find the serial number of the LAN and download the driver that you need.

  3. Ignore that "designed for xp" c**p. It's just a marketing token used by Microsoft to make unsuspecting people actually think the hardware was, literally, designed for XP.

    You need a network adapter.

This can be either an Ethernet adapter, or a Wifi adapter. I had an older Thinkpad, and all it had was a dialup modem. There were no Ethernet or Wifi devices built in, so I had to purchase adapters for it.

I assume your Thinkpad is a bit outdated. Two things gave it away:

    1. You said IBM. IBM sold the Thinkpad line to Lenovo many, many years ago.

    2. You installed XP. IBM sold thinkpads preloaded with Windows 98, NT4, and 2000, not XP.

Pick up a cheap PCMCIA-based network card, and you'll be able to get connected.

  4. um, if you don't have an internet connection, how did you post this?
