  1. well, first of all ask yourself what is your level of skill. Are you at par with your opponents? If not, then you should practice more. Find your weaknesses and put in extra work on it.The self-confidence will come when you feel that your playing skill is good and capable of beating your opponents.

Try to find a good sparing partners (better than you) coz you'll learn fast from these guys and at the same time build your confidence. Believe me when you start to win matches with them, your confidence will self developed. Enter as many competition as you can. Remember, even Federer loses but that does not deteriorate his confidence.

  2. I used to be like this too. I'm an excellent hitting partner in rallies (i can rally with 5.0's) but in match play i'm just not there mentally. At your level of tennis NO ONE has a complete game. You can find a strategy and stick to it and you will have a better chance at winning. For ex: if they have a weak backhand, just hammer their backhand, or if they're a baseline basher, hit drop shots and bring them to the net. A good book to read is Brad Gilberts "Winning Ugly". I play every point as if I was down 15-40 (1-5). This calms down my native desire to try to rip winners when they're not available or over hit. At your level of play, generally the person able to keep the ball in play will win the point.

  3. play people that you know you will beat in straight sets
