  1. These trojan and viruses hide themselves in system restore folder and many anti-virus programs cannot get rid of them. So whenever, you restart your PC, the viruses are restore back by WIndows.

Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.

I would suggest that you uninstall Norton and get Avast. It is free for personal use.

Avast boot scan in Windows safe mode is the most effective way to get rid of stubborn trojans and viruses that keep coming back to haunt you.

Avast boot scan help to get rid of them in the system restore folders and ensure your system are clean.

  2. First off, AVG will NEVER compare to a paid for AV product!  So having Norton is MUCH better than AVG will EVER try to be.

However, it sounds like your computer is not patched, and once the virus is removed, you are getting reinfected somehow.

Your best start is to read to this forum -

Which will walk you thru the tools listed -

One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches.  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!

If you need any help (especially if the forum is slow), please let me know!

  3. Is the anti-virus deleting the actual virus?  Try updating your norton, and run the scan again.

  4. Try downloading AVG 8.0...It works really well for me...
