The Danish sensation has replied to Marc Overmars’ recent comments about his intentions of not signing a new contract by insisting that he never refused to extend his contract at Amsterdam Arena.
Ajax Amsterdam playmaker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Eriksen-c9074, has insisted that he has not refused putting pen to paper on a new deal at Amsterdam Arena.
The 20-year-old has long been linked with a number of elite European clubs including the likes of Manchester United, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach and several others following his breathtaking showings for the Amsterdammers
in the past couple of seasons.
Recent reports in the Dutch media indicate that De Joden are keen to extend the midfield maestro’s contract, which runs until the summer of 2014. However, the club sporting director, Marc Overmars, recently revealed that the Danish prodigy does not want
to prolong his stay at Amsterdam Arena.
In spite of all the drama surrounding the promising youngster, the 20-year-old has now made it clear that he has never refused signing a new deal.
“I did not say that I do not want to sign a new contract, but the club know that I want to keep my options open. I need, at any time, to be able to look forward”, Eriksen was quoted as saying to journalists.
The Danish international went on to admit that he currently feels extremely happy at Amsterdam Arena. Meanwhile, the youngster has also admitted that he feels that it is the right time to take the next step in his career.
“When is that? I do not know. I still have a contract until 2014 and I have a good feeling with Ajax. I know they want to renew, but I also feel that maybe I am ready to try something new. My agent is talking with the club and I will say yes or no”, Eriksen
concluded.
The 20-year-old, who started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2009/10 season, has thus far donned the jersey of Ajax in well over 100 matches in all competition, netting 22 goals while amassing an impressive 43 assists along the way.
