It has been discussed for a couple years now. They have big money backing them and experienced people with guys from the old USFL setting up the league. One rumor I've heard is Mike Vick will join a team to prove to the NFL he is still capable. I think the competition with high school football is a little overstated, we are talking about large cities for the most part where friday night lights arent as big as some area's. And high school football can easily move big games if needed to saturday mornings (it is done around where I live often for big matchups). Obviously this will not last but it might serve to establish other cities as NFL worthy (the hope of these investors, they will have a franchise ownership/partnership agreement in place just in case they are right). They wont have big dollars behind them other than deep pocket owners so they wont pay big contracts but fringe guys will play in hopes of getting back (or in) the NFL. I think the money behind this really has the old AFL goal in mind, not neccisarily a merger but a buy in opportunity.
