I have not received my stimulus rebate check yet?

My paper check should of been mailed out no later than July 11th. I still have not received my check. I do not owe any back taxes and I did file my taxes in January '08. I did change my mailing address back in May. I notified the US Postal service of the address change, but did not think it would be necessary to notify the IRS since the US Postal service had my address. Is there anyway to confirm the location of my check? Thank you!

  1. You cannot assume that if you notified the USPS of your address change, all government agencies will automatically update their records. If your tax return was filed with your old address, your check was probably sent to the old address. If you don't have your mail forwarded to your new address, you should call USPS to explain the problem, and ask what you should do. Calling the IRS will probably be necessary, unfortunately. In the future, I'd advise against assuming the government is efficient (it's not) and that its various parts are connected and share information (they don't).

  2. Allow at least 2 weeks if the IRS has the new address (if your name and address were an exact match, the IRS does get the updates from the post office).  Allow 4 weeks if the IRS didn't get the new address.

    Then call....

  3. The only sure way is to have filed an IRS form 8822 and notify the Post Office.
