  1. mauve,plum,red

  2. Katie, if you want it to look victorian I wouldn,t use paint. Most of the older victorians had really intricate wallpaper. Also if you have wood flooring under that carpet you can really make it look original with buffed and waxed wood floors with sectional throw rugs strategicly placed. I love victorian homes and other than a major insulation headache, they are so awesome. I think the wallpaper idea with long drapesthrown over the top of the valance in a "w" shape would look like the Tara plantation in "gone with the wind". Since evryones tastes are different you might want to google search victorian style home interiors and see what you think is good. Lucky you, I wish I was in your shoes. Good luck.

  3. purple or a deep red dark red looks good in an old house

  4. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a darker color like "manor house" (# 7505) would fit well with a Victorian style. Or you might consider a wallpaper - that's a very Victorian trend:

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
