just take the settlement for it? If I take it to the insurance, will they give me fair value estimate or should I do that and get 2 other private bids to compare it with? Or is that not necessary, and assume the insurance won't low ball me?

  1. Take it to a Carmax and ask them what they would have given you for it

  2. You can decide weather or not to fix your car up or keep the cash. Just look in the newspapers or Kellys blue book to detremine the cars value.

  3. if your accident was the others fault, and they admit it,and they have insurance, let the insurance set the price, they usually give a fair price. a lot of times you can then pocket the money and not get the repair done. If they don't have insurance, get what you can and pocket it. if you make a claim on your insurance, it can bite you with higher premiums in the future.

  4. If you have insurance you need to contact your insurance company immediately. They will pay to have your car fixed and then they will go after the other guy for reimbursement.  It will then be up to your insurance cover as to what repairer you will be able to use.  You will be able to get other quotes but the insurance company will have to authorize the repairs anyway.

If you don't have insurance then you need to go through the company which the at fault driver is insured with and it will be the same there.

    Good Luck :)
