I am cycling 500km from Saigon to Angkor Temples, the first night is in a hotel in District 1, I love live music, food an drink but also need to be fit in the morning to start the cycle!! Any experience that will leave a true impression of the city on me is what I would like.

  1. If it is a totally unique and delicous meal you are after... try Com Nieu Saigon ( I think my spelling is shocking). Say hello to Madame Ngoc from me and watch out for the flying baked rice patties as they fly across the room. Brilliant night !!

  2. I would go to a Vietnamese street stall, buy some shrimp pancakes (banh xeo), have some Vietnamese pork chop for dinner at a local place, then sit on a street corner watching the world go by drinking 333 beer or maybe even some of the cheap local draft beer served in a plastic bottle for just 20 cents a serve!

  3. Don't drink the water.

  4. U can walk around SaiGon center, there are many great place around here, shops, restaurants, malls, foods....

  5. district 1 is a happening place-there is a club/pub called allezboo which rocks all nightand the saigon bar which is open 24 hours. it is now ho chi minh city! enjoy your trek-its a good one!

  6. Get drunk and go to a hostess bar.  Definitely will leave u with an impression.

  7. I just got back from Saigon on Sunday - had a fantastic meal at Lemongrass which I THINK was on Dong Koi Street.  Best Vietnamese food I've had.  There's a pretty roof top bar on top of the Caravelle Hotel which does live music and cocktails, but I only spent three nights there and didn't do any clubbing or anything.  I loved Lemongrass though, just gorgeous.  If you're not into Vietnamese food though, there's another restaurant nearby called Jaspas which had a varied menu with nice tex-mex.  Have fun, it's a great city.
