  1. What is the genotype of the yeast and what type of media are you growing them on?

    Yeast carrying mutations of the ade1 or ade2 gene will produce a red colour if not supplied with enough Adenine in the medium.

    Edit: I am assuming that you have already ruled out bacterial contamination by colony morphology (yeast and bacterial colonies look very different) or by a quick peek down the microscope.


  2.   The red bacteria is likely Serentia Marcesense

  3. I'd go with the Adenine answer (although I guess it could be red bacteria).
