  1. If i were you i would call the canadian consulate to find out.i know that france and italy require you to renew if you only have 6 months left.  


  2. Well, until June 2009, you don't even need a passport to go to Canada. You do need a birth certificate though and other ID. So if you are going soon to Canada and you are from the USA, then you are fine. I would renew it though as soon as you come back.

If you are entering Canada via a LAND crossing (driving), you technically do not need a passport until at least June, 2009.  If you are flying from the States into any Canadian city, a VALID passport is required for the duration of your stay as you will need it both entering Canada and re-entering the U.S.

    For a land crossing, the following documentation is presently required:

    (1) valid government issued photo ID, such as your driver's licence, and

    (2) your original birth certificate.

    Not one or the other but both.
